Why don't I see a feature on the mobile app?
If a menu, button, location, or shift is missing in the Clean Smarts mobile app, use these checks to find the permission, setup, account, or app issue.
What appears in the Clean Smarts mobile app depends on your user modules. What you can see inside a feature also depends on your location access, assignments, and your company's setup.
Use this guide when a menu, button, location, shift, checklist, or other item is missing—especially when a coworker can see it.
Applies to: Cleaners, supervisors, and managers using the current Clean Smarts mobile app. An administrator manages roles, modules, location access, and company features in the web portal.
First, Identify What Is Missing
The type of missing item points to a different cause:
- An entire tab or menu is missing: Check your user modules and whether your company has that feature.
- The feature opens, but a button or tab inside it is missing: You may have view access but not create or edit access.
- The feature opens, but a location, shift, checklist, inspection, or person is missing: Check location access, schedule assignments, and whether the item was set up for that location.
- The screen is blank, stale, or shows an offline error: Check your connection and sync the app. This is not always a permission problem.
The mobile app uses the individual modules attached to your profile. A role name such as Cleaner, Manager, or a custom role does not by itself guarantee a particular mobile screen; the modules included in that role are what matter.
Check Common Features
Here is where common features appear and what normally controls them:
- MESSAGES on the bottom navigation bar appears when you have at least one Messaging module: company, cleaner, or customer messaging.
- MORE > Inspections appears when you can view or create inspections. Viewing results and creating an inspection are separate permissions. Creating inspections requires both the inspection-company and checklist-inspector capabilities.
- MORE > Supplies appears when you have at least one Supplies module. The module you receive also controls whether you can request supplies, set quantities, fulfill requests, or see costs.
- MORE > Issues appears when you have an Issue module. If you have only customer issue access, the app labels this feature Service request instead.
- MORE > Users appears with Users view, Users edit, or time-tracking edit access. Opening a person's full profile requires Users view or Users edit access. Which people appear can also be limited by location access.
- MORE > Work Orders appears with Work Orders view or edit access.
- MORE > Assets appears with Assets view or edit access. Assets are available on the Expert tier.
- Who's working on HOME appears with schedule view or schedule edit access.
- My hours on HOME appears with time-tracking check-in or edit access. It is hidden for contractor profiles.
- The Schedule tab under MY JOBS depends on scheduling or inspection-related modules. List and Map can still appear when Schedule does not.
Inside a location, the Checklist, Issues or Service request, Assets, Inspection, and Supplies tabs follow their matching modules. The Scan Points tab is part of the location screen, but whether it has required scans depends on that location's checklist and scan-point setup.
If Check-In Is Missing
Timekeeping has more than one access rule:
- Timetracking (Check in) turns on normal clock-in and clock-out access for a worker.
- Timetracking (Edit) lets a manager work with other users' time and also provides timekeeping access in several mobile screens.
- Locations (Mobile Only) allows check-in from a location opened through List or Map, even when there is no scheduled shift there.
- A scheduled shift still needs to be available to you. Location access alone does not create a shift assignment.
If you see the shift but cannot complete check-in, check phone location permission, geofence rules, shift timing, or the location's barcode/NFC requirement. Those rules affect the action after it appears; they do not grant the missing timekeeping module.
Refresh Access and App Data
- Connect your phone to reliable Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Ask your administrator to compare your effective modules and location access with a coworker who can use the feature. Custom roles often explain why two people with similar jobs see different screens.
- Ask them to confirm that the feature is available for your company and set up at the correct location. A module can show a feature, but it cannot create a missing checklist, shift, inspection, supply list, or asset record.
- If your modules changed and the screen does not update while you are online, tap MORE > Logout, then sign in again. Signing in reloads your user profile and its modules.
- If a location, schedule, checklist, or other work data changed, go to MORE > Sync, then tap Sync on the next screen. Sync refreshes company and work data stored on the phone; it is not the main way to reload your user modules.
Permission changes can also reach an online app automatically. Logging out and back in is the reliable next step when a newly assigned module still does not appear.
Check the Company and App Version
- Wrong company: If your login belongs to more than one company, make sure you entered the correct company. Log out and sign in again; select the right company when the app asks.
- Old app version: Go to MORE and scroll to the bottom to see the installed version. Update Clean Smarts from the App Store or Google Play. Some fixes and newer screens are unavailable in older versions.
- Update required message: Tap Update. The app blocks continued use when the installed iOS or Android version is below the required version.
An update can fix an outdated or broken screen, but it does not add modules, location access, or company features to your account.
Other Edge Cases
- You can log in but have no locations: The app displays a message that your administrator has not given you access to any locations.
- You can log in but have no modules: The app displays a message that your administrator has not given you privileges.
- You had the feature before: Your role or modules may have changed, you may be in another company, or an app update may be needed.
- You see the menu but cannot edit: View and edit permissions are separate for features such as inspections, users, work orders, assets, supplies, schedules, and time.
- A coworker sees more locations or people: Compare both module access and location access. Some account-wide permissions can show every user and location.
- Only work data is missing while offline: Reconnect and sync. The app stores some work data for offline use, but it needs a connection to download new assignments and some details.
If the checks above do not explain the problem, open MORE > Help. Include the missing feature's name, whether the whole menu or only an item inside it is missing, your company, your app version, and any error message. Do not send your password.
