How do I turn on notifications from my cleaning company?

Turn on push, email, and text notifications from your cleaning company, and check why an alert never arrived.

Clean Smarts can notify you when your cleaning company messages you, updates a service request, completes an inspection, or creates a supply request. You choose the channel—phone push, email, or text—and you can change those choices in the mobile app.

Applies to: Building-client customer users with a Clean Smarts login. You will not see clock-in, payroll, or staff-only alerts. The types that appear depend on the modules and locations your cleaning company assigned.

Before You Start

  • Sign in with your own Clean Smarts username. A shared phone only receives push notifications for the last person who signed in.
  • Keep a valid Email and Phone number: on your profile. Email and text stay off until those fields are complete. Update them on the phone under MORE > My Profile.
  • Ask your cleaning company to confirm that your user is marked as a Customer. Having customer menus is not the same as that classification. If the classification is wrong, some alerts never send.
  • You only receive alerts for locations you can access.

Push, email, and text are separate. Turning on Push does not turn on Email or SMS.

What You Can Be Notified About

These types appear when your role includes the matching customer module:

  • Messages - Customer — a new message in a customer location chat
  • New Issues and Updated Issues — a service request you can see was created or updated
  • New Supply Requests and Updated Supply Requests — a supply request at a location you can access
  • Completed Inspections — an inspection at your location was completed
  • Event Reminders — a reminder your cleaning company attached to a scheduled visit
  • No Shows — this toggle can appear if your company gave you No-show Notices. Customer logins do not receive the automatic no-show push, email, or text today. Ask your cleaning company to tell you when someone misses a shift. There is no no-show report in your web menu.

You do not get internal staff chats. You also do not get staff-only service requests unless your cleaning company shares them with you. You will not see clock-in or payroll notification types.

Choose Your Channels on the Phone

There is no Notifications page in the customer web portal. On the phone you can turn types and channels on for yourself.

  1. Open the Clean Smarts app and sign in.
  2. Tap HOME.
  3. Tap the Notifications bell.
  4. On Alerts, tap the settings icon.
  5. On Notification Preferences, check the boxes you want under Push, Email, SMS, and Inbox.
  6. Tap Save. Wait for Notification settings saved.

Inbox saves matching updates to the in-app Alerts list. It is not a phone-permission switch, and it does not store every email, text, message, or reminder.

If Email or SMS is grayed out, add a valid email or phone number under MORE > My Profile, then return to Notification Preferences.

To turn a type on for every channel at once, use Select all.

Allow Phone Notifications for Push

The app can send a push only after the phone allows Clean Smarts notifications. Clean Smarts asks for permission when you sign in. If you tapped Don’t Allow, use the phone settings below.

On iPhone

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps > Clean Smarts > Notifications. On some iOS versions, use Settings > Notifications > Clean Smarts.
  3. Turn on Allow Notifications.
  4. Choose Lock Screen, Notification Center, and Banners.
  5. Turn on Sounds if you want an audible alert.
  6. Reopen Clean Smarts and confirm you are signed in.

If alerts arrive quietly or late, check Focus and Scheduled Summary.

On Android

Labels vary by phone.

  1. Open your phone's Settings app.
  2. Tap Notifications > App notifications > Clean Smarts. If that path is missing, use Settings > Apps > Clean Smarts > Notifications.
  3. Turn on All Clean Smarts notifications or the main switch.
  4. If categories appear, turn on the ones you need and choose Alerting instead of Silent.
  5. Allow lock-screen notifications if you want to see alerts while the phone is locked.
  6. Reopen Clean Smarts and confirm you are signed in.

On Android 13 and newer, the app needs notification permission before it can show alerts. Battery Saver or a manufacturer battery setting can delay delivery. Set Clean Smarts battery use to Unrestricted while you test.

Ask Your Cleaning Company to Set Notifications on the Web

On the web, only someone at the cleaning company can open your user profile. They use the Notifications tab and the columns Mobile Push, Email, Text/SMS, and Save to Alert Inbox.

Ask them to:

  • Turn on the types you want for the channels you use
  • Confirm your email and mobile number
  • Confirm you are classified as a Customer and have the right locations
  • Narrow location access if you are getting too many emails

You cannot open Manage Users or change those web checkboxes yourself.

Why Am I Not Getting Notifications?

  • Push never appears. Allow Clean Smarts in the phone settings above. Connect to Wi-Fi or cellular data. Force-close and reopen the app. After a phone update, restore, or another person signing in on the same device, log out and log back in so the phone re-registers.
  • Email never arrives. Confirm Email is checked for that type. Check spam. If you clicked Unsubscribe in a Clean Smarts email, use the link in a later email to subscribe again, or ask your cleaning company to confirm your subscription status.
  • Texts never arrive. Confirm SMS is checked and your phone number is correct. The first Clean Smarts text asks you to reply YES. Reply YES, Y, or SI to 1 (888) 989-8912. If you previously texted STOP, text UNSTOP to that same number.
  • Some types arrive and others do not. Open Notification Preferences and check that type. Then ask your cleaning company whether the event was sent to you and whether you have the matching module and location.
  • A service-request alert is missing. Staff-only issues stay hidden. The person who created the request does not get an alert for their own update.
  • A chat text is missing. Customer texts go to customer location chats, not internal staff threads. The sender does not get an alert for their own message.
  • I have too many emails. Ask your cleaning company to remove locations you do not need or to turn off types you do not want.
  • The Alerts list looks empty. That list is device history for some issue and supply updates. Messages, no-shows, reminders, email, and text do not appear there. An empty Alerts screen does not mean push, email, or text failed.

If none of those checks help, ask your cleaning company to send a test after they confirm your Notifications tab, classification, and location access.
