How Do I Change the Language in Clean Smarts?

Change your display language in the Clean Smarts mobile app or web portal. Admins and managers can also set language for other users from Manage Users.

Clean Smarts lets each user choose a display language. That language controls menus, buttons, and other built-in text in the app. It also controls automatic translation for some content, such as checklist tasks and messages sent between users who speak different languages.

Applies to: All Clean Smarts users. Field workers and customers usually change language in the mobile app. Administrators and managers change language in the web portal, including for other users.

Before You Start

  • Your Language setting is saved on your user profile. It is not a company-wide setting.
  • On the web portal, you need permission to edit users to change language and save the update. If you only use the mobile app, open My Profile there instead.
  • If you are setting language for someone else, open their profile in Manage Users on the web portal, or set Language when you create the user.
  • The mobile app supports a few more languages than the web portal. If a language is available on mobile but not on web, the web portal falls back to English.

Change Your Language on the Mobile App

Any logged-in mobile user can change their own language from My Profile.

  1. Open the Clean Smarts mobile app.
  2. Go to My Profile using either path:
    • On the Home tab, tap your profile picture in the top-right corner.
    • On the More tab, tap My Profile.
  3. Find Language and tap the dropdown.
  4. Choose the language you want.
  5. Tap Save Changes.

The app reloads with the new language right away. If you were offline, Clean Smarts also refreshes cached data so labels stay consistent after you reconnect.

Change Language on the Web Portal

On the web portal, language is part of a user's Personal Information profile. You need permission to edit users to change it.

Change your own language

  1. Open Manage Users from your profile menu in the bottom-left corner, or press Ctrl/Cmd + K and search for Users.
  2. Open your user profile.
  3. On Personal Information, find Language.
  4. Choose the language you want from the dropdown.
  5. Click Save Changes.

The web portal switches to the new language immediately after the save completes.

Change another user's language

  1. Open Manage Users.
  2. Find the user and open their profile.
  3. On Personal Information, update Language.
  4. Click Save Changes.

The next time that user opens Clean Smarts, their menus and notifications use the language you selected. If they use the mobile app, the new language appears after their next login or profile sync.

Note: The Preferences tab on a user profile controls time format, dark mode, and table layout. Language is on Personal Information, not Preferences.

Tips and Troubleshooting

I don't see a Language field on the web portal. You may be on the Preferences tab instead of Personal Information. If the field is visible but grayed out, your role does not include user editing. Change language from the mobile app, or ask an administrator to update your profile.

The web portal showed one language before I logged in, then switched after login. Before sign-in, the portal may use your browser language. After login, it uses the language saved on your user profile.

I changed language on the web, but the mobile app is still in the old language. Force-close the mobile app and open it again. If the profile was updated by an administrator, the user may need to log out and back in.

A checklist task or message is still in the wrong language. Make sure the recipient's Language setting matches the language they expect. Automatic translation only runs when languages differ. Content entered manually in another language may not change.

I set a user's language when I created them. Language is part of the new-user form on Personal Information. See How do I add a new user? for the full setup flow.
