How do I use bar codes for clocking in and out of a location?

You have the option of requiring users to clock in and out of service locations by scanning a bar code that is placed on site. This is a setting that you can enable on a location-by-location basis.

Instructions for enabling this feature and printing a bar code

  1. Go to Admin > Manage Locations in the web portal and click on the pencil icon of the location where you want to enforce bar code check-in.
  2. Under "Service Details" select the option "Require scanning location barcode" next to "Require barcode check-in?"

  3. Click the "Print Check-In Barcode" button to print that location's bar code.
  4. Enter the number of labels by which you want to offset the printing of the first label. Typically this will be zero.
  5. You can then print the label from your browser print dialog box (see "Adjusting printer margins" section below if the labels are not printing in the correct position). Place the label at the site and make note of its location in the Cleaner Notes field of the location properties.

Instructions for printing multiple bar codes at once

  1. Go to Admin > Manage Locations in the web portal.
  2. Click the "Print Check-in Barcodes" button at the top of the screen. Alternatively, you can type a phrase in the search box to filter the list of locations and then click the "Print Check-in Barcodes" button in order to print a few at a time.

  3. Enter the number of labels by which you want to offset the printing of the first label. Typically this will be zero.
  4. You can then print the labels from your browser print dialog box. (See "Adjusting printer margins" section below if the labels are not printing in the correct position).

Instructions for clocking in

  1. On the mobile app, select the location you want to check into.
  2. Slide to the right the green button at the bottom of the screen.

  3. The screen will show a bar code reader. Hover the image over the bar code to check in.

  4. Repeat the process to check out of the location.

Adjusting printer margins

For a standard (in the United States) letter-size sheet of labels (10 rows and 3 columns), you will need to adjust your printer margins whenever you print bar codes. In Chrome, this can be done by clicking "More Settings", and adjusting the top to 0.5 inches and the sides to 0.0 inches.
