How Do I Check In and Out of My Shift?

Clock in and out of your shift at work from the Clean Smarts mobile app. Slide to check in, switch locations when needed, and confirm your GPS at the site.

You clock in and out of your shifts right from the Clean Smarts mobile app. This article shows you how to check in at the location the app suggests, switch to a different location when you need to, and check out when you're done.

Before You Start

A few things need to be in place before you can clock in:

  • You're assigned to a shift by your scheduler or administrator. If you don't see any shifts, contact your supervisor.
  • Your profile has time-keeping enabled. If you never see a check-in button, ask your supervisor to check your permissions.
  • Location permission is allowed for Clean Smarts if your company verifies your location at check-in. When the app asks, choose to allow location access and turn on Precise Location.

Clock In to the Suggested Shift

When you open the app, you land on the Home tab. Clean Smarts looks at your schedule and the current time, then suggests your next shift under Your next shift.

  1. Open the Clean Smarts app and stay on the Home tab.
  2. Check the location shown under Your next shift. This is where the app will clock you in.
  3. Slide the green Slide to check in button all the way to the right.
  4. If your company verifies your location, the app reads your GPS and shows a Location Detected map. Tap Confirm to finish.

Once you confirm, you're clocked in. The app shows your active session, and your time starts counting for that location.


Clock In at a Different Location

The suggested shift is just a starting point. If you're working somewhere else today, you can pick a different location before you slide to check in.

  1. On the Home tab, tap Select a different location, just below the suggested location name.
  2. On the Select shift screen, find the shift you want. Your own shifts are under the My jobs tab. If you have permission to work other jobs, you'll also see an Other jobs tab.
  3. Tap the shift you want to check in to.
  4. Clean Smarts starts checking you in at that location. If your company verifies your location, tap Confirm on the Location Detected map.

After you check in, that location becomes your active shift.

Tip: Don't see the location you need? It may not be assigned to you. Ask your scheduler to add you to the shift. Schedule changes show up in the app right away.


Clock Out When You're Done

When your shift is finished, clock out from the same Home tab.

  1. Go back to the Home tab.
  2. Slide the red Slide to check out button all the way to the right.
  3. If your company verifies your location, tap Confirm to finish checking out.

If your site requires you to be on-site, make sure you're still within the work area when you check out. Once you're clocked out, your time for that shift is recorded.


Troubleshooting

If you can't clock in or out, check these common causes first:

  • You're asked for location and nothing happens. Turn on location access for Clean Smarts in your phone settings and enable Precise Location. Then try sliding the button again.
  • You see a message that you must be on-site. You're outside the work area (geofence). Move closer to the site, wait a few seconds for your GPS to get a better read, and try again. If you're already on-site, tell your supervisor.
  • You can't clock in before or after your shift time. Your company may block check-ins outside shift hours. Confirm you tapped the correct shift under My jobs.
  • You don't see your shift. Your scheduler may not have assigned you yet. Contact your supervisor.
  • You don't see a check-in button at all. Your profile may be missing time-keeping access. Ask your supervisor to enable it, then log out and back in.
